Mansfield to Harrogate
In June I travelled from Mansfield to Harrogate, a Victorian Spa Town in North Yorkshire surrounded by beautiful Yorkshire countryside. I was there to visit the dental laboratory that I work closely with for many of my more challenging and aesthetic cases.
The dental technicians are a key part of the dental team that work in the background, producing artificial replacements for teeth such as crowns, bridges and veneers. I do a lot of dental implant work, replacing missing teeth at the front of the mouth, so I work closely with a dental technician and communicate how the patient’s natural teeth appear as well as any individual complexities.
Have you ever noticed just how different peoples’ teeth are when you look more closely? The difference in shape, size and colour varies greatly from person to person. Look at one of your own teeth, see how they naturally change colour slightly between the top and bottom of the tooth and all the subtle contouring.
This is a very skilled job and requires years of training and lots of investment in time and equipment.
The first thing I noticed when I arrived at the laboratory on the outskirts of the town was the organisation and attention to detail. It is obvious that they take great pride in their work, which is why I continue to work closely with them.
Michael and Jonathan
It felt like I was visiting old friends, as Michael and Jonathan introduced themselves the realisation hit, despite working together for more than 16 years this was the first time that we had actually met in person. In “real life” they are as friendly and welcoming as our telephone conversations indicated and after 30 years of experience are still passionate and enthusiastic about their work.
The main reason for my visit today was to discuss future developments with dental implants and some of the new digital technology that we would both like to work with. With several new technologies developing, it is important that we work with systems which integrate and communicate as seamlessly as we have been doing for the past 16 years.
After some good humoured but serious discussion, time seemed to fly. I left having thoroughly enjoyed my time here and with a list of plans. No visit to Harrogate is complete without a visit to the famous Bettys tearooms and after a very enjoyable Haddock, salmon and prawn gratin (I resisted the many tempting desserts!) I was all ready for a steady drive home.
I would like to say very best wishes to Rachel, the dental technician who will be taking maternity leave shortly as she is expecting a baby in September. Also, a very big thank you to Michael and Jonathan for their kind hospitality. I look forward to many future years working together, just one example of why I love working with Flesher Dental Laboratory and how our patients benefit from their beautiful work.
That’s all for now, David.
There are many more examples and our team are always happy to share real cases of how we have changed our patient’s smiles. Why not visit the practice at Shine Dental Care or give us a call on 01623 629391.
