Single Tooth Implant

A missing tooth can certainly take the confidence out of your smile, especially if it creates a visible, noticeable gap. At Shine Dental Care in Mansfield, we provide single tooth implant treatment to help patients rediscover their smiles. This advanced treatment also cares for your dental health in ways that are completely unique to dental implants.

Even a single missing tooth can impact on your dental health. Neighbouring teeth may move into the gap and the opposing tooth on the other jaw is also affected as it no longer has its complementary force every time you bite. Over time, the bone that surrounded the tooth root deteriorates making your jawbone less strong and dense. Traditionally, the solutions were limited to partial dentures or a bridge. Single tooth implants are now the preferred choice as they look, feel and work like the real thing while helping to preserve jawbone.

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root which is inserted into the jawbone just like the root of a real tooth. The top of this artificial root is covered by a temporary crown while the bone integrates onto the implant. Integration can take around 3 to 4 months but the benefits are extremely worthwhile – good integration creates a strong and lasting foundation for a permanent crown.

This kind of stability is unique to dental implants and is what makes them feel so secure and natural. Finally, the permanent crown is attached to the implant. Designed for optimum bite and performance, we also carefully colour match it to your natural teeth so that nobody will know you’ve had a tooth implant.*

We have a great deal of experience in dental implant treatment and support our patients in every way to help make the procedure less daunting and as pain free as possible. Dental implant surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic and is relatively simple and straightforward.

Prices are based on your individual needs and will be provided after your initial consultation. Our prices are clear and transparent, you’ll know exactly what to expect and when. We also provide a range of payment options to help spread the costs. Read more here.

A brief guide to the single dental implant procedure

Our treatment plans are tailored to each of our patients, but the following guidelines give a general idea of procedure sequence and schedule:

Stage 1 – Planning

To help ensure the very best results for our patients, each case needs to be carefully planned. This may include:

  • A CBCT bone scan and radiographs (X-rays) to fully assess your teeth and supporting bone structure
  • Diagnostic wax-up, study models and surgical guide for further assessment and to help us show you the final result we’re hoping to achieve
  • Photography for treatment assessment, planning and recording
Stage 2 – Preparing the implant site

Before placing the implant, we may need to remove failing teeth. If this is the case, the tooth would be extracted and allowed to heal for a period of 8 to 12 weeks.

It may also be beneficial to perform a socket preservation procedure. This involves placing a bone substitute material into the socket to create as much bone as possible in which to place the implant. We may use a temporary denture or adhesive bridge when we remove teeth to help maintain your smile.

Stage 3 – Implant placement

Usually this takes place 8 to 12 weeks after a tooth has been extracted. The procedure takes up to 2 hours and is performed under local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout.

Stage 4 – Crown/ bridge/ denture placement

We usually wait a period of 8 to 16 weeks for the implant(s) to fully integrate into the surrounding bone. At this point, we can place the final crown.

Frequently Asked Questions

About single dental implants at Shine Dental Care, Mansfield

  1. What is a dental implant?

A dental implant consists of an artificial tooth root and man-made replacement tooth. The root is placed beneath the gum line and into the jawbone so that artificial teeth or bridges can be affixed to it.
They can replace single or multiple teeth (and even a full set of teeth).

  2. Is the surgery painful?

The implant procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout.

  3. How do I care for dental implants?

Brush twice a day and floss once a day as you would your natural teeth. It’s also essential to attend all follow-up, check-up and hygiene appointments.

  1. Will I be suitable for dental implants?

At Shine Dental Care, we fully assess your needs and listen to your concerns to offer all possible treatment options. We’re also very honest about what to expect and potential results. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis or are a smoker, dental implants may not be right for you. We’ll talk this through in detail during your consultation.

  2. How long does the treatment take?

This will depend on several factors including how many teeth are being replaced, if any failing teeth need to be removed and the strength of your jawbone. We will provide a timeline as soon as we’ve assessed all of these factors.

  3. How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants can last for many years (even a lifetime) if you care for them properly. They are a genuine long-term solution to missing teeth.
